Event Information

2024 Activities

The following are the events that are currently scheduled for this year.  Keep checking the calendar and the website for new initiatives that may pop up!

For specific dates and times, please see the calendar!

Family Skate at Albert McCormick

This free event occurs twice during the winter months, usually in November and in February.  Families can skate for an hour, then join us in the Community Room for snacks and games for another hour.  The City of Waterloo donates the ice time and the room for us!  The WCA provides the snacks!

Community Clean Up

Although we hope that we are always trying to keep our Community clean, we know that sometimes a big clean up is necessary!  We hold community clean up in the spring (after the snow melts) and in the fall (before the snow flies!).  The City of Waterloo provides the supplies and gathers the filled garbage bags - WCA distributes the materials.

Perennial Exchange

Whether you're a seasoned gardiner or just starting out, this is the perfect opportunity to diversify your garden and share the joy of perennials.  Don't worry if you don't have a plant to bring - come along and pick out some new greenery to take home with you! Usually occurs in May.

Pollinator Garden

Our Pollinator Garden is located in Bolingbrooke Park.  Volunteers are required during the spring and summer months for watering and mulching.  Help keep our ecosystem healthy!

Community Yard Sale

Everyone has a Garage Sale on the same Saturday!  Usually occurs in June.

Toonie to Twenty Campaign

This is our Door-to-Door Campaign that occurs throughout the month of June.  Although Donation Cans are available at all events, this campaign focusses on raising money for our largest event - the fireworks!  Volunteers go door-to-door in their part of the neighbourhood asking for donations and giving information about the WCA and the events that run all year in the neighbourhood.  This is a great way to get involved if you're looking for something small where you can determine the times that suit you best!

Summer Salute

Formerly known as The Family Fun and Fireworks event, this is the major event of the year!  It usually runs near the end of June and tries to get as many people in our community involved.  Food trucks, activities for kids of all ages, vendors, not-for-profit organizations, entertainers - and fireworks at dusk!  Lots of opportunities to help for a part of the day - or all day!

Family Fun Softball

Dust off your baseball glove and come out to Westvale’s Family Fun Softball from 7 to 8:30 pm on Saturday nights in July and August, except for the long weekends. We play at Westwind Park baseball diamond behind Westvale Public School. All ages and skill levels welcome. If you’ve not played before, we’ll show you how. We play for fun and we let everyone bat until they get a hit. It’s not a formal league, just a fun night for families and children age 8 and over. We make up teams from whoever comes that night. There’s no obligation to show up every week.  Come out on Saturday nights all summer to play, watch or cheer!

Corn Roast

Herrle's donates the corn, WCA cooks it and provides the toppings!  We set up by the park at Holy Rosary Catholic Elementary School.  Usually occurs at the end of September.

Halloween Parade

On the Saturday before October 31st, have your little ones dress up and parade together on a designated Candy Route.  This afternoon parade lets the smaller participants have a great Halloween without disrupting their bedtimes!!  Volunteers are needed to be part of the stops along the way!  This is a joint initiative by the WCA and the Westvale Optimists.

House Decorating Contests

We have two decoration contests - one for Halloween and one for Winter Decorations/Lights.  Winners get a gift card!

Board Meetings and AGM/Social

Board Meetings are scheduled once per month, usually on the third Thursday of the month.  They are held from 7-9pm at Libro Credit Union (Fischer-Hallman and Erb Streets).  Anyone is welcome to attend!

For the AGM/Social, come meet the Executive and other community members in this pizza social and meeting.  After enjoying some social time, we'll present our successes from last year, our plans for next year and detail ways that you can help if you wish!
